VOICE AND CHORAL

Timeline for Participation in the Major Choral Ensembles
The Children's Festival Chorus accepts students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades only, and advances students through a three-tier system of choruses: Troubadours, Talisman Choir and the Bel Canto Singers. Students with more musical knowledge and singing ability will advance through the choirs more quickly, often spending only one year in each. As a result, the Bel Canto Singers can often have children as young as 8 and as old as 14. Students who reach High School Age, have passed their voice change and have reached a fairly advanced level on the piano or voice can audition for the Junior Mendelssohn Choir. Juniors and Seniors in High School with particularly advanced vocal technique and solid knowledge of music and languages can audition for the adult Mendelssohn Choir that sings with the Pittsburgh Symphony. Gray areas indicate that the student is ineligible to participate either due to age or insufficient progress (years of study).
