Many instruments come in smaller sizes appropriate for young children. Woodwind and Brass instruments DO NOT come in smaller sizes, which is one reason young children should start with RECORDER before beginning a wind instrument.
GUITARS come in a special HALF size which is appropriate for children ages 7 to 10.
All STRING instruments come in Thirty-second, Sixteenth, Eighth, Quarter, Half and Three-Quarters sizes which can be fitted to your child by a professional instrument dealer. Students will usually have to upgrade to the next size about once every 1 to 2 years depending on growth spurts, until the student reaches an instrument of full size (usually by age 12).
If the instrument you have is not the correct size, please see your local dealer about obtaining an instrument of the correct size. (SEE GETTING AN INSTRUMENT).
