MY CHILD IS IN
KINDERGARTEN OR FIRST GRADE
(See Testimonials about how great we are with kids!)
Kindergarten and First Grade are absolutely the best years to start a child into piano lessons. The child is still not overwhelmed by school, but has learned some important socialization skills that will help in private lessons. The Bastien Piano system has wonderful books specifically designed for children at this age, which limit the amount of reading required and move at a slower pace in regard to motor skills.
When considering which system to use, the primary consideration for placing beginning piano students is their reading ability. When you contact us be sure to be specific and honest about your child's reading ability, whether advanced, on par, or a little behind for the age. Choosing the correct system can mean the difference between having fun and learning well, or being frustrated and losing interest. We want your child to learn and be successful in her/his music studies, and reading ability does not predict or in any way indicate a child's potential with regard to music.
At this age, your child is still too young to begin any other instruments or voice lessons, so the best option is to start now with piano lessons to give her/him the proper foundation needed to branch out to another musical instrument by the 2nd or 3rd grade.
