TUITION AND COSTS

2007-09 TUITION SCHEDULES

The tuition rates at KMI are very affordable, and we hope to keep them that way. Strict observance of our payment deadlines and missed lesson policies will keep our costs low, and keep you (our students) happy.

Term Tuition Fees: Most KMI students enroll for a Full Term of lessons, which means they pay for the Full Term as a single fee. (See Payment Plan Options regarding how tuition can be paid). A term is considered 15 weeks of lessons (whether once weekly, twice weekly or more frequently). The tuition is based on the total lesson time in a week. E.g. Two 30 min. lessons per week would be the tuition for 60 min./week.

Volume Discounts: The tuition rates are discounted according to the total lesson time per week. This includes multiple family members on the same account. Multiple siblings and even parents can all enroll with substantial savings to help offset the cost. The reason we can offer this kind of discount is that we have three studios available for teaching, so we can schedule family members concurrently. Not only do you save time, we keep our schedule tight and efficient.

Tuition Schedules: Below are listed all the 2007-09 Tuition Schedules by program. Except for the 6-Week Introductory Period, all the schedules assume 15 weekly lessons per term. Students enrolling for twice and three times a week lessons should refer to the tuition that reflects the total weekly time. The "Savings" column reflects the student's savings based on the highest rate (30 min./week). More time per week means more savings.

*Classroom Courses: At the levels beyond the Core Curriculum, students are expected to enroll in Musicology courses as required by their respective programs. These courses cover the theory and music history components that are included in the private lesson at the Core Curriculum levels (see Musicology Department).

Classes meet weekly at specific times and students are required to attend all classes. Each student must purchase required texts, music and possibly CDs and will receive a syllabus indicating specific reading, listening and performing assignments for each week of the course. Students are expected to be fully prepared for each class and will be graded accordingly. If a student misses a class or is unprepared, work must be made up in a satisfactory manner as determined by the faculty. This might be a short essay, paper, quiz or other similar assignment.

**Summer 12: The fees listed in this column are for the special Summer 12-Lesson enrollment option. For students who are enrolling for the 10-Lesson option, they pay the same fee as for 15 lessons but have lessons which are 150% of that time (e.g. pay for 30mins. and have 10 lessons that are 45mins., pay for 45mins. and have 10 lessons that are 70mins., or pay for 60mins. and have 10 lessons that are 90mins.) Students enrolling in the 10-Lesson option must enroll for at least same amount of time as their lesson for the preceding Winter Term. Students enrolling in the 12-Lesson option must enroll for lessons at least 15mins. longer than their lessons for the preceding Winter Term.

Competitive Rates: Since the Kikuchi Music Institute operates on a Term Tuition system, it is often difficult to compare our rates to that of other teachers. This is especially true for families with multiple children, and when you consider how cancellation and rescheduling policies can vary widely. To make a simple rate comparision, choose the time/week category that applies to your situation and divide by 15. Therefore, a 30 min. lesson in the Core Curriculum is $16.67 and a 60 min. lesson is $27.33. When comparing tuition in the other programs, the student must take into consideration that cost for the weekly course and studio class is included.

Tuitition Changes: The Kikuchi Music Institute reserves the right to change tuition rates at any time it deems it necessary. All students will be notified in writing well in advance of the change, with clear explanation of the how the change effects them. However, most tuition changes will happen in the Fall term, and will be based on current market conditions (cost of living / regional market salary demand). As KMI grows, the need to appoint more qualified faculty may necessitate tuition rate increases.
