MIDTERM ENROLLMENT CHANGES
Situations happen that might force a student or family to change their enrollment status after the term has begun. Most universities are very strict and inflexible in this regard, with a general “No refund after _________” policy, where the deadline is usually early in the term (often as early as the 2nd week of the term). At KMI we want to be far more accommodating, and will usually provide some sort of refund regardless of when a student withdraws or chooses to reduce lesson time. However, we do charge penalties that will affect the amount of the refund, and in some cases it might be better for the student (family) just to complete the term as planned and make the changes in the following term.

Mid-Term Increases: A family may enroll additional students, or increase an enrolled student’s lesson length without penalty at any time in the middle of the term providing that the schedule can accommodate the change. The family is responsible only for the difference in full-term tuition rates, and the student must make up the implied missed lesson time (all 15 lessons) before the end of the semester. If the desired change is late in the semester, the family may wish to consider just enrolling the new student for just the 6-Week Introductory Period or Floating Lessons or waiting until the next term.

Early Withdrawal: Core Curriculum and Music Appreciation students who choose to withdraw from KMI before the end of the term, will be entitled to a maximum credit of $20/hour for any unused future lesson time minus any applicable unpaid fees or penalties. Young Artist students who choose to withdraw from KMI before the end of the term, will be entitled to a maximum credit of $25/hour for any unused future lesson time minus any applicable unpaid fees or penalties. Make-up and missed lessons will not be credited or made up at any time once notice of withdrawal has been given. Likewise, considering the withdrawal penalties listed below, it is quite possible that an early withdrawal could result in the account having a balance due, rather than a credit balance.

Reducing Lesson Time: Core Curriculum and Music Appreciation students who choose to reduce the length of their lesson time (this includes the dropping of a secondary instrument) before the end of the term, will be entitled to a maximum credit of $15/hour for any unused future lesson time minus any applicable unpaid fees or penalties. Young Artist students who choose to reduce the length of their lesson time (this includes the dropping of a secondary instrument) before the end of the term, will be entitled to a maximum credit of $20/hour for any unused future lesson time minus any applicable unpaid fees or penalties. Make-up and missed lessons will not be credited or made up at any time once notice of time reduction has been given.
