Richard (Rick) Murrell (Instructor) began performing trumpet professionally in1980 when he secured a position in the Veracruz Symphony Orchestra in Mexico. Since then he was a member of many orchestras throughout the U.S. (Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids and Binghamton) before finally relocating to Pittsburgh in 1990. In Pittsburgh, Mr. Murrell has performed several times with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (under Lorin Maazel, Marvin Hamlisch and Doc Severinsen) and various ad hoc orchestras and brass ensembles throughout the region, and is a current member of Pittsburgh Ceremonial Brass.
Outside of the Kikuchi Music Institute, Mr. Murrell's teaches private trumpet in the Franklin Regional School District and Mt. Lebanon, and he conducts the Memorial Park Presbyterian Church Ensemble (band/orchestra) and a brass ensemble at Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville.
Mr. Murrell is also qualified to teach French horn, euphonium and trombone; and currently maintains a weekly teaching schedule of 25-30 students considering KMI, Franklin Regional, and Mt. Lebanon combined.
