CORE CURRICULUM

In the Voice Core Curriculum, all theory is taught in conjunction with piano lessons. The primary areas of instruction for voice are: Lesson, Diction, Solfeggio, Vocalises and Songs. Since the voice matures with the age of the student, it is not advisable to approach many technical issues with the young voice student. Instead, the Core Curriculum focuses on issues of intonation, sight singing, rhythm, foreign language pronunciation and diction.

Students under age 13 will progress through the Core Curriculum much more slowly (about 2 years per level), students over age 13 will progress more quickly and will receive more in depth technical training according to her or his vocal ability and physical maturity.

Kikuchi Vocal Method: The Director, Mr. Kikuchi, is currently authoring an important milestone vocal method series which is already being beta-tested on our students. This series was developed because there simply is no method system that works. The student is introduced to singing techniques and knowledge step-by-step with exercises graded according to what material was covered. Each exercise and song is a "play and sing" approach where the piano playing part increases in difficulty according to the student's progress. If you click on the link above, you can download sample pages of the books to see how wonder they are.

Primer: Young voice students with no other musical experience will study voice in conjunction with their piano lessons. The student will sing the songs that are in the piano books and learn to sight sing using the Patterns of Sound Book 1. Once the student’s music reading ability is established, the student may advance to Level 1. This curriculum will be replaced by Kikuchi Vocal Method - Primer once it is published.

Level 1: The Kikuchi Vocal Method Level 1 provides instruction in lessons, diction, and vocalises. The Patterns of Sound Book 1 provides Solfeggio and Royal Conservatory Vocal Repertoire Preparatory Level provides performance songs.

Level 2: The Kikuchi Vocal Method Level 2 provides instruction in lessons, diction, and vocalises. The Patterns of Sound Book 2 provides Solfeggio and Royal Conservatory Vocal Repertoire Level 1 provides performance songs.

Level 3: The Kikuchi Vocal Method Level 3 provides instruction in lessons, diction, and vocalises. Sightsinging Book 1 provides Solfeggio and Royal Conservatory Vocal Repertoire Level 2 provides performance songs.

Level 4: The Kikuchi Vocal Method Level 4 provides instruction in lessons, diction, and vocalises. Sightsinging Book 2 provides Solfeggio and Royal Conservatory Vocal Repertoire Level 3 provides performance songs.
